Hi there,
Really appreciate you taking the time to make these tutorials, they're fantastic.

For this one in particular, however, I do not have an html file to edit when I unzip the files.
I can't complete the tutorial without the code!

Any help appreciated!
Thank you.

Thanks a lot for this tutorial!! Its great but for me didn't work out :(. Opens the image in the navigator instead of making a zoom on it as in your example.

----
For SBurrowsimages

I faced the same problem as you and what I understood (after all) is that you have to drag the highslide in the folder of the page ex: about, or company, you will see and about.html and then a folder name about (there is where you have to drag the highslide) and replace the and the title= opening with the text edit the about.html for example.
For me didn't work out the zoom but maybe the problem is me. Try it and good luck, and if someone figure out what I'm doing wrong, help is more than welcome :-)

Hi

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding your instructions I'm afraid.

Firstly, let me explain the item I am trying to link. I am linking a text box to your Highslide. The reason for this is that if a person right clicks an image, they can save the image to their own computer and steal the image very easily. If i put a text box over it, the option to save image does not appear. I know that there are other ways of stealing images (screen shots etc) but at least it will reduce the amount of attempts. See my "company" page on my website www.steveburrowsimages.com. I have 3 images there as this is the page I want to test your Highslide.

Now for my issue.

Your instructions trip me up at step 5. I can see your folder and drop it in as you explain. I understand that iWeb creates an index file as you illustrate next to the website folder with the red arrow pointing at it. You then say "Open your favorite HTML Editor (Coda, Espresso, TextEdit) and you are going to find and replace the code below:" I open TextWrangler but it opens with a blank screen. Obviously. Are you saying open the index.html file in TextWrangler? And then find the as you say? I am a bit of a Newbie to all this and it doesn't matter how many times I read your instructions, I am not able to follow you.

The end result I am trying to get is that the link will direct you to an expanding Highslide image. I will have a square thumbnail image on the screen as per the images you can see, but when you click on the image (actually clicking a text box as I explained earlier), the full size image will Highslide out.

Please can you help me here? Also. I know I am going to have to do this for every image I want a Highslide attached to? And, will I have to do this over again every time I make any adjustments to my website?

Hopefully you will reply soon.

Many thanks

Hey, guys,

Not sure whether you every figured this out, but I just answered your question in a later comment (currently on page 3 of the comments). Basically when you re-publish, iWeb completely rewrites anything that you've edited in iWeb and removes anything that it didn't put there. See my answer to "Aver" for a solution to part of this hassle...

(Note that I'm talking about changing the paths in the section of your html page -- you will still have to do this manually each time you republish. That's why it's important to do all your tweaking in iWeb BEFORE you add the HighSlide code that is described in this tip.)

BTW, this site is amazingly helpful!! I've donated, and hope everyone that gets some help from the site does the same. It takes a lot of time and effort to put together a site like this! (And no, I don't know the author!! :)

Hi, Aver,

It's almost a month later, but in case you're still wondering (or someone else is), whenever you republish your site from iWeb, all the files associated with pages you've changed will be overwritten with new versions -- which will overwrite any changes you've added manually. You might use 2 strategies:
- make sure your pages area absolutely finished before you manually add the HighSlide code, or
- make a copy of your manually edited files before making any changes in iWeb, make any changes in iWeb that are necessary and republish, then copy any of the manual changes you made from your saved file into the new file. Just make sure you don't save the extra file into any of the directories that iWeb creates, because when you publish, your saved files will be removed.

Hope this helps you ... or someone else.

(For more advanced users, you can save yourself some of this hassle by creating another directory/folder at the level above the directory that iWeb creates on your server to hold some of static files (like the js and css files), and then change the related paths in the section using the "../" convention to move up a directory level. E.g., if my iWeb site is called MySite and you create a new directory called MySite_myfiles and move the highslide folder that you've downloaded in this tip here, then the path to the highslide-full.css file would change from highslide/highslide.css to ../MySite_myfiles/highslide/highslide.css.) Etc.

Hi dear!
Very good job! Thanks for all your labor. But I do face a problem.
1. I finish my page in iWeb and upload it to my server
2. I open this page from TextWragler, I replace all the necessary, [title="Click to Enlarge" onclick="return hs.expand(this)">] etc,
3. I ftp the NEW page, replace it with the one I have created in iWeb
and all works fine….BUT…!
If I go back to iWeb, and change something in the page, and re-upload it to my server
then, I have to go through all the same process!!
Now can you imagine having 100 or 200 images how difficult this would be?!!
Hope there is a solution on this matter dear...
Thanks for your understanding!

I'm a bit confused.... I am trying to add highslide with images on my Photos page, but it seems that it says to replace 1 thing with 2 different things... that being the title.... it says to first replace it with:

title="Click to Enlarge" onclick="return hs.expand(this)">

then it says to replace with the page name/image name......

neither seems to be working.....

Hi Jason. Thanks very much for your videos, has totally opened my mind to all the different things you can do in iWeb. I am however a complete novice at code and am having trouble locating the highslide.html file as it does not seem to be contained within the download file. Can you please give me a hint as to where I can find it so I can then edit it in textedit as I have created a contact form for my website with jotform and want to use highslide with iframe
Thanks again. Katya

Can someone help me please??

I am designing my website on iweb. I have a collection of images that I want to display as thumbnails, and then when you click on the thumbnails, they appear as larger versions on the SAME page. Without popping up in different windows. I don't want any fancy zooms and shade boxes and high slide or any of that. Just simple and plain.

The gallery and photos template in iweb are not the templates I want.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Hello,
I've been trying to implement this function for about 3 hours now, and I'm not sure why it doesn't work. I'm a very elementary level HTML user, so maybe I'm just missing the obvious. I'm trying to use a shape to expand out to a photo. I have successfully completed steps 1-6, but when I add the last bit of code, I seem to fail. I know what my file is named (, and I know what the page root is... but am I supposed to put the image name where (this) goes in the last step? I want my image called "Holiday Text DUI Image.jpg" to open when a user clicks on my shape that says "Click here to save $300." Instead, all I get when I click on the shape is a link to the image, not an enlarged image. See: http://www.cassandrahearn.com

Here's what my code looks like:
alt="Click here to save $300" title="" />

Please help if you can. :)
Thanks!

Hi. I tried this tutorial today and I got it working. But now I'm thinking exactly the same thing as you.
Does this mean that every time we update our site thru iweb, we have to redo all the replacements again, since it overwrites our .html page file?

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Hi Dan.

I've tried this and it will work on the following ;

All pages shown within the highslide window should be the same size

Links can be added directly within the pages you make -

or -

you could give individual image links to each page on the main page and give all the [group tag] -

have a main link which launches the first page in the highslide sequence and all links with a [group tag] should follow in sequence and navigation can be done with the controls on the highslide window.

just a quick question, when I add the Highslide folder, or any other such folder like Shadow box to my site folder, every time i update my page and republish it, the folders disappear from my site folder and all the old code that i did to make the Highslide or Showbox effects work disappears as well. Is that normal?? do I have to re-do all the code every time i republish the site??

Successful! Sometimes...In iWeb 09, using Snow Leopard, I am unable to assign a hyperlink to a text box or a shape using any style of Highslide. I am only able to assign a hyperlink to a picture. Any idea why? The only pattern i found is that there is no > after title="pagename_files/flashfile.swf"> in the HTML file when I have assigned a hyperlink to a shape or text box.

This is great! How can I do multiple images? I want the user to be able to click on one image then advance through them instead of opening and closing images individually. Is that possible?
