Video Tutorial-Menu Navigation in iWeb
This tutorial will show you how to get more advanced navigation in iWeb. Navigation such as custom rollovers, drop down menus, and more. It’s the ultimate tutorial on getting a new navigation that goes far and beyond what the default is offered in iWeb. It’s a must see for any heavy iWeb user.
awesome information! Now can you do one to teach me to do a search button on the website?
that was awesome information! Took an iweb class and he could not show me how to do this! Thank you soo much! Now can you teach me how to do a search button for the website?!
Awesome tutorial. I’m stuck on uploading it to the server though. I use godaddy and I’m not sure how to upload the images onto there.

Dear iJason why in the izzymenu when clicking on a link in the menu it opens the window in another window but dose not stay within the same window that it starts with. look at my site and even see.
-Please Help-
It’s a matter of changing the target of the URL. _blank will open in a new window. Try changing the link targets to _top, that should open the link in the same window. If you don’t see the target tag in there you might have to add it. The link would look something like this:
<a href=”http://www.yoursite.com/yourpage/” title=”The title of the page” rel=”nofollow”>Your Link Button</a>
I switched all the links to “target=”_top” but I still get new windows. Anything else I can try?
I had this problem too. I moved the target=”_top” to the front of the url instead of after it and it worked for me for some reason. so it looked like this. Try that and see what happens. Mine was the izzy menu inside of a iframe and when you clicked the links they opened inside the iframe, but when I did that they opened in the parent window.
okay my code made it all my text a link. sorry, but this is what i did.
<a ttarget=”_top” href" then the link and yadda yadda
I followed this thread over and over but still my page opens in a new window.
It is only the initial click of any one of the drop down menu links that opens to a new window. After I’ve clicked any one of the links, which has taken me into a new window, all the drop down links work fine and stay within that new window. No more windows.
Hosting on my iDisk and followed the video instructions to a T.
Could us a little help please…
Thanks
I searched the site and found this to work…
iWebUnlimited said 4 months ago
“Try change all instances of “_parent” to “_top” and get rid of the rel attribute.”
– This helped me…
Clever
Clever, this is what I am dealing with also. I still haven’t seen a fix. Does anyone know? Please help.

This is a great tutorial, but the issue I am having is my navigation menus are not listed at the top one next to the other. I have them listed on the left hand side one on top of the other. Is there a way to get a drop down menu that will move the lower menus down when highlighting to get the sub-menus or some other work around so the sub-menus don’t open on top of the lower “actual” menus?
Thanks for ur kindness, appreciate! : )
I am trying to learn how to do 1) Drop Down Menu without HTML Snippet: from your site, however, the long portion of the code that you demonstrate in the video is no longer on you site; https://iwebunlimited.com/2009/iweb-tips/iweb-tip-16-navigation-menus-in-iweb/. Can you please tell me how to get that long portion of the code so that I can attempt the process you describe. Thank you.
It’s under the “HTML Snippet” search the site for it.
Hi, I am really enjoying your website.
I would love to create some nice drop down buttons like you have done on your website.
I tried your dropdowns but they ended up in the right top corner, not under the button, and I really don’t like having to update the file every time I publish, as that is fairly frequently with a blog etc on my site.
Look forward to your reply.
Thanks for this and all these tips!
It doenst seem to appear under the button… did i do something wrong??
Thanks
I’m having difficulty in getting the drop down menus to run to another page I watched the video almost 6 times, am I missing something?
YOU ARE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!
Hi there!
First, thanks a lot for all your video tutorials, I just have two questions:
1. how did you create the search box similar to Apple’s (in you navigation bar)?
2. How did you create the effect that appears when you scroll your mouse through the menu bar and it kinda gets darker.
Thanks a LOOOT!
My iweb is published through mobile me which i believe it has to be. However in the tutorial it shows you publishing to a local folder. The last time i change where i was publishing it messed everything up. In order for to me do the coding for the drop box i know i need to find the html, but how do i do that if i don’t publish it through a folder on my computer? Sorry if this makes no sense. Thanks
I have a huge problem with mobile me. I did exactly as you did, but apparently it will not find the pictures! please help me! what to do?
I copied the images folder into the “web/sites/username/” folder, and it wont appear on the website. :'(
Forget this post.. I found out the problem
I need help trying to emulate the drop down menus that they use in apple trailers like such http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/tronlegacy/ the drop down with he picture of the trailers that is then clickable and you can see the trailer.
Any ideas?
Hello, I like your work!
I did the Izzy menu on one of my web pages and it works great…the only thing is that if I view it in Windows 7 OS…..the menu comes in a white box :-(
This only happens with windows OS (on my MAC it’s good)
Let me know if this could be fixed…Thanks alot!
So close… The main and dropdown menu buttons all work great at the URL for the IzzyMenu itself, all links are live and open to the next page (even in the same window, after making some tweaks with help from above comments). But on the actual website, 1) in Safari, the main menu links are not live, only the submenu links; 2) in Firefox, no links are live. Any advice on what might be the problem and how to resolve it so the website menu will have live links on at least these two browsers? USRonline.net, and http://www.usronline.net/dropdown/IzzyMenu.html.
Kind thanks in advance.
I’ve temporarily put up a different dropdown menu on the home page for usronline.net, because the Izzymenu solution is causing a problem. The same problem comes with this one from Old Toad. I’m sure I’m missing a quick step inside the Snippet, or something similar. If anyone knows how to resolve the problem of buttons that are not live, however live they may be in IzzyMenu page (noted in previous post), a solution is welcome.
Thanks all.
Ok I have my menu with drop down.. it works when I double click the HTML file. It’s uploaded to my mobile me root server but every time i use the iframe code and type in where it’s at just like the video shows it doesn’t work? Has anyone had this problem? I have worked and worked and I am just about to give up. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks
Okay I figured it out… it’s showing in mobile me now perfect. HOWEVER, when I publish my page it somehow deletes my folder I have uploaded in my root. I have no idea why. so it’s still not working… although if I don’t publish it, it looks great in mobile me.
what username are you talking about. By the way i have a FTP client using cyberduck. If can help with that I will appreciate your help. Thanks
